2007/8/29 Diabetic wound closing drug technology transfer to Microbio Co., DCB signed agreement with Microbio Co., Ltd.

DCB and Microbio Co. held ceremony on August 29, during this session, a diabetic wound healing drug DCB-WH1 was officially transferred to Microbio Co., Ltd. This drug will apply for FDA phase I/II study, DCB-WH1 has also acquired patents from countries such as ROC, US, EU.

Contract Signing Ceremony took place at DCB's International Conference Room with Chairman Wu Shu Ming as witness of this event. During the ceremony, President William Lu from Microbio Co. and CEO Dr. Wu Ming Chi of DCB were the representing parties from both companies. Both corporations celebrated such a breakthrough achievement in diabetic wound healing therapeutics.

Chairman Wu Shu Ming of DCB indicated, this is the first successful technology transfer case happened between academic research and business corporation for the past eight months, as result of consistent team structural reform. This collaboration not only boosts up the whole R&D team's morale, but far more importantly, it proved that DCB has come out of metamorphosis and marching toward success. And this will truly be the initiative for Taiwan's biotechnology industry.

Chairman Wu expressed, DCB will carry on to push along R&D pipeline into botanical new drug discovery, which correspond to Taiwan's new drug discovery momentum, and playing a role as the leader in Taiwan's CTM industry, improving Taiwan's botanical drug product up to international level, and expand international business, thus taking a market share in global market.

CEO Wu Ming Chi of biotechnology center indicated. The core team members which just successfully signed the contract is the result of whole project research team, under the support of MOEA with more than three years of devotion in research. Far more importantly, DCB-WH1 has included a very precious Taiwan domestic plant, for the reason of business secrecy, we name this as PA. The key composition corresponds to he analytical data come out of PA, along with plantation in different timing, apply fertilizer, water supply, temperature control and rainfall precipitation. Integration of all these valuable data can utilize PA's GAP platform construction, and building of such platform can be helpful for other plants in GAP, and also helpful for Taiwan's economic drug GAP platation.

In the future, DCB will devoted even more in the original plant for research and development, and to express our uniqueness in international new drug development. As the leader of Taiwan's TCM industry, DCB devoted to improve Taiwan's medicinal plant product to international level and expand international business, in order to take a share in global market.

Project leader, also botanical R&D in charge Dr. Wu Zuei yu said, wound healing difficulty is always a critical issue which perplexes DM patients, immune compromised, and inabilities patients; not only time and money consuming during medical care, as well as affecting life quality for patients.

In US, the only approved DM ulcer wound healing medication is called Regranex. Dr. Wu pointed out that DCB-WH1 not only has similar wound healing ability as Regranex, but more importantly, as an extract from botanical substance, it is cost effective, has better stability, can be preserved under room temperature, ease of use with multiple components; this drug not only can accelerate cell regeneration, but also has tendency of antiseptic, anti-inflammation, good wound closing. With all these benefits, DCB-WH1 is considered a promising drug for DM foot ulceration, burn healing, bed sore ulceration.

According to Regranex manufacturer's market survey, potential market for chronic wound healing is about 5 to 7 billion USD with steady market growth about 8.3%, in particular, DM foot ulceration as example.

Besides of DM healing drug, DCB also has signed an technology transfer agreement with Microbio Co. for plant extract aim for Rheumatoid Arthritis treatment. This technology transfer was also included in this ceremony toward mutual collaboration to new drug discovery in Rheumatoid Arthritis.
