MS-20
MS-20, a fermented soymilk extract manufactured at Microbio's GMP plant using proprietary symbiotic fermentation technologies. Pharmacological efficacies include anti-oxidant, immune-modulation, anti-infection, and anti-cancer activities. Prior clinical studies demonstrated that MS-20 enhances cytotoxic activity of natural killer (NK) cells, and alleviate fatigue and poor appetite in cancer chemotherapy patients. Phase II clinical studies are currently underway for improving the quality of life and survival in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. Meanwhile, Phase III trials are ongoing for reduction of neutropenic fever in cancer chemotherapy patients.
MB-6
MB-6 is a combination of MS-20 with OPC, green tea, spirullina, curcumin and antrodia camphorate powder. Animal studies have shown that MB-6 can increase survival and life-span of colorectal tumor bearing mice undergoing 5-FU therapy by 30%. MB-6 received US FDA IND approval in November 2008 and is currently undergoing phase Ēš clinical trial as an adjunct therapy for colorectal cancer.
MS-201
MS-201, derived and partially purified from MS-20 is a polysaccharide-containing compound. This compound demonstrated strong inhibition effects against tumor proliferation, particularly in estrogen-negative breast cancer cell lines. MS-201 is at the stage of animal studies.
MB-316
The metabolites of Taiwan indigenous Streptomyces sp. No. 316 have been screened to posses inhibition of colon and pancreatic cancer cell line growth activities. After partial purification, a fraction with cytotoxicity against cancer and normal cell lines in a 40:1 ratio was obtained. Animal studies are on-going.
(2) Anemia
Herbiron
Herbiron contains chelated ferrous bisglycinate and Chinese herbal medicine. Animal efficacy studies showed superior effects on cellular ferritin protein concentrations. In an in vitro cellular assay mimicking intestinal absorption, addition of Herbiron enhanced iron absorption efficiency. This herbal drug have the potential to enhance iron utility in human. In addition, in vivo study in mice showed that iron absorption of Herbiron is better than that of iron sulfate. Herbiron is undergoing Phase III clinical trials for anemia in Taiwan.
(3) Anti-bacterials
MB-225
The metabolites of Taiwan indigenous Streptomyces sp. No. 225 have been screened and found to posses anti-MASA and anti-VRE activities. At present, Microbio is continuing to isolate and identify active components, which may lead to drug candidates as part of the company's future research and development portfolio.
